Maybe it would be helpful to discuss *why* SUBMIT/REMOTE is so limited.
Apparently the way this works is that FAL on the server machine opens the
control file, then closes it, setting the "submit to batch on close" bit
(FAB$V_SCF in FAB$L_FOP).  With only one bit, there are very few options :-).
Any options other than ["do it","don't do it"] will have to be effected
in the batch job itself (or, anyway, outside of the SUBMIT/REMOTE mechanism)
because there is no place for the options to be expressed in the SUBMIT/REMOTE
transaction.

For those who have the money, perhaps the Distributed Queueing Service will
allow one to do those truly neat (and sometimes even useful) things such
as using machine A to submit a job to B using a control file on C, with
the log stored on D and printed from queue Y on machine E....  Lacking DQS,
the available protocols are simply not rich enough.
