I have been playing with EVE in VMS 5.0, there are lots of improvements from previous versions. One thing I really like is the ability to get your own key definition help (without any work on your part) by using the HELP KEYPAD command, or just the PF2 key in EDT keypad mode. Not only can you get your keypad layout, you can also get a list of all current key definition comment. The new wildcard find is very handy. The ability to list all your buffers and goto one of them just by point with the cursor is standard in EVE now... I distributed a version of my TPU program called EDTPLUS on the net back in VMS 4.x days, it is now rewritten to use EVE. The only setback maybe that the size of the .tpu$section file is now more than 600 blocks big. EDTPLUS has the following features: rectangular cut/past, copy/overlay split/remove/enlarge/shrink windows mouse keys support show ascii table keyboard learn sequence a replace with confirmation (without having to hit CR after the answer) based on EVE (SET KEYPAD EDT) so you have all (most) edt keys too wilecard find, etc. can be run as a kept editor Should I redistribute this version on the net? oh, in the new EVE, if you want to get a file but did not know its name exactly, EVE will give you a list which matches your file spec (such as *.com) and let you type in again. (yeah, it would be nicer if you can point to it with the mouse). For those of you using the VI written in TPU by Gregg Wonderly, I have modified it (very) slightly to make it work on VMS 5.0, with no functionally changes, nor did I rewrite it to use the new EVE/TPU features. The new TPU is pickier about certain things, so the old version would not compile correctly, I just got rid of all the error messages. So does anyone want the VI editor too? /portia shao Hughes Aircraft Co. Portia@engvax.scg.hac.com (for faster response, this is where I read mail) or prshao@hac2arpa.hac.com otherwise
