There have been some rumblings about moving the fa.* groups over to mod.* groups to make things more consistent. It makes sense to me, and since most of the fa.* groups are gatewayed through ucbvax (which I maintain the netnews software on), I'm in a position to do it. What I would like to hear from the worthy readers of this illustrious bastion of the network community are arguments pro and con. My list so far looks like this: Pro: The concept of moderation is well understood (if not appreciated) by the network community. Mod groups are properly supported by the network software. This is toward a unified network (i.e. no distinction between USENET and the ARPA INTERNET). This may alternately be viewed as a con depending upon your point of view. Con: The current software works well, and to get the appropriate magic cookie into the headers, I will have to hack recnews (I'm lazy, just like everyone else). Some administrative overhead (newgroup/rmgroup control messages propagating around...). Comments from the network community are solicited. Erik E.
