Can anyone verify if the VAXcluster PAK is really required before V5 will run in a cluster? Our Vaxcluster PAK's aren't due until the "September time frame" but we need to run one cluster node at V5A (mixed version cluster) now for testing. The release notes say (in section 6.11) that if a Vaxcluster PAK is not registered, only an error message is issued at system startup and "Vaxcluster environment processing continues". However the cover letter appears to contradict this. Anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance. C. A. Make SURE that you have all the PAK's you need to get your 5.0 system up and running. Although I *THINK* the LAVC license isn't needed (you will only get a warning message), the DECNET license is NOT! If you don't have your DECNET license installed, and you plan to boot a satellite node from the boot node, you will be very unpleasantly surprised... I called Colorado support about the PAKs and they gave me some temporary ones for the products I was licensed for until my permanent ones came in. They are VERY helpful, and if your site has this service available to it, I recommend using it if you have any problem with the 5.0 installation. I am under the unfortunate condition that my boss wants a running system, and he cares not about VMS 5.0. Therefore, after my 12 hour (TK50s are enough to drive me insane) backup/installation/restore, I was told to keep 4.6 up until we finish the current project (September). Remember that Colorado support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are planning on doing the installation/upgrade on Saturday, call them Friday with any questions you might have. Especially if you are doing the upgrade on a MicroVAX using TK50's and want to do a standalone backup first, you will need at least 10 hours for the upgrade. Getting assistance before you begin (if needed) will help get you through the headaches of the license manager. The rest of the installation process is straightforward. If anyone out there has any more to add, please e-mail a copy of it so I can be ready for when I do the upgrade (again...). +------------------------------------+----------------------------------------+ | Gil Kloepfer, Jr. | Net-Address: | | ICUS Software Systems | {boulder, talcott}!icus!limbic!gil | | P.O.
