[comp.os.vms] transfer problems with ftp between Apollo & VAX

ianh@merlin.bhpmrl.oz (Ian Hoyle) (05/09/89)

We have a problem with ftp file transfers between our Apollo (running SR10.1,
BSD4.3) and our VAX (running the Unix connection software under VMS 5.1).

The direction of transfer is from the VAX to the Apollo, and we have replicated
the problem when initiating ftp from both sides.

The file on the VAX is a sequential carriage return/carriage control ascii text
file of size 1498/1500 blocks (VAX terminology for you non-VMS'ites :-)

				BUT

when I transfer the bloody thing it comes up with a different byte count each time.
(whole segments of the file go missing).

??? what is happening ???? I thought that TCP-IP/FTP should NOT allow this
behaviour to occur.
