fenster@shum.huji.ac.IL (07/13/89)

Sorry it took so long, but here is the summary of PD IMSL.
IMSL for those that don't know is a large set of math routines.

A) IMSL is NOT Public domain.

The IMSL developed from Public domain libraries, among them SSP (Decus tapes),
Collected algorithms of the CACM etc.

There are many public domain math libraries flying around in addition to the ab
ove:

Harwell software library from Harwell atomic energy establishment in
     Harwell England.

    LINPAK,EISPAK,MINPAK

    cmlib from Carnagie-Mellon

    SLATEC from
        National Energy Software center
        9700 South CASS Ave.
        Argonne, IL 60439

Pricing: (Please no posted flames about prices. if it is unaccepted please f
lame direct)

It can be rather costly depending on the type of system you have.
    For example:  a Microvax license would cost a little over 5K;
an 8600 license would cost over 22K. (For educational inst.
    it's 3K and 12K, respectively.)

Just by chance a ran into the SSP package on the VAX87C,D,E Decus tape (VAX-SP-
70) and it
seems to be what the doctor ordered.

Thanks to all those whom responded. (And those that tried but didn't get thru)
