[comp.os.vms] DECwindows 2.0 is it slower than 1.0?

sback@elbereth.rutgers.edu (Steve Back) (12/07/89)

I'm in the process of upgrading from DECwindows 1.0 to DECwindows 2.0 and
I seem to be running in to performance problems. We're running on VAXstation
3100's under VMS.

There is a very noticeable delay when ever you click the mouse before the
event occures. Iconizing a window is an exception there the delay is less
noticeable. Pulling down menus can take several seconds and moving a window
seems to take several clicks before the window "catches"

I have already tried various options from the Customize Pointer menu with
no positive results. DECwindows 1.0 did not have this problem but since it
only supported DECnet we need to continue through with this upgrade. Any
thought or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I posted something about DECwindows 1.0 being based on X10 and
DECwindows 2.0 being based on X11. I was refering to versions of the
Ultrix Worksystem Software. UWS1.0 is based on X10R4. UWS2.* is based
on versions of X11. VMS DECwindows 1.0 is indeed based on X11, not X10.
Sorry about any confusion.
