Hello, I'm currently putting together the specs for a Vax 6420 / HSC40 combination and I'm trying to decide on some sort of high-capacity backup medium. I've been happy with CTS and Exabyte 8mm units on Q-Bus and Unibus (VMS and Ultrix) machines, but our sales reps have been trying to convince me to buy a TA81 because they have heard that the 8mm units have been causing clustered VMS machines to crash. I really don't want to have anything to do with changing reels of tape, (maybe I'm getting spoiled ;-) ) so I'd like to get something that can back up a few gigabytes on 1 tape. Has anyone had any experiences with 8mm units attached to an HSC? Should I wait and buy DEC's 4mm tape unit? Please email any comments to brian@chinet.chi.il.us and I will gladly summarize for the net (our domain is still in the process of being registered). regards, Brian Wolfe inet: brian@chinet.chi.il.us Diagnostic Radiology phone: (312)-942-5781 Rush Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center Chicago, IL 60612
