[net.dcom] ECLIPSE Floating Point Format.

miller@loral.UUCP (David P. Miller) (12/11/85)

In order to help a colleague of mine finish his project, I'm trying to obtain
floating point format info for the Data General ECLIPSE 32-bit computer,
specifically for the MV10000 model. All he needs to do is to obtain the hexi-
decimal notation for four different numbers in order to generate an algorithm
to convert data from ECLIPSE format to IEEE 488 format and viceversa.
In contacting the Data General local office we learned that in order to do
that they needed a P.O. and several weeks lead time from us in order to come
up with the answer. Now, come on guys !!. All that time and money for four
different numbers ??. It seems to me I've seen similar information published in
MIL-STD-1750, but not in any DG literature.
What we need is the bit pattern (sign bit, mantissa, and exponent) for the
numbers listed bellow:

                  0.5 X 2^127 -0.5 X 2^127
		  0.5 X 2^-128 -0.5 X 2^-128

Does anyone out there know where I could obtain this info expeditiously, or
know what the resultant numbers might be ??. I would greatly appreciate any
help given to me in this matter.

				  Thanks in advance, BIG DAVE.
