[net.dcom] Industrialized modems?

ras@abic.UUCP (Rick Sykora) (12/27/85)

I am in the process of evaluating modems for use in a
remote diagnostic application. I would appreciate
any useful correspondence from those with knowledge
about industrialized modems.

Particularly, I have a DATEC modem in for test and I
am interested if anyone else can offer advice on these
units. To give those unfamiliar with industrialized
equipment an understanding of what kind of modem I
need, what I mean by industrialized is a modem which
can operate in a wide range of temperatures (0 - 60C),
relatively high humidity (> 90%), good noise immunity,
and heavy-duty connectors.

Additionally, although this application is not likely
to strain the reliability of a modem, an industrialized
modem might typically be designed to outlast a commercial
product by greater than 3 times the expected life of
the commercial version.

Thanks,

Rick
