I have a problem for all you VAX experts out there. I'm a unix kind of person who just recently became the administrator for a MicroVAX II which I had to get running VMS v5.2. That was a task in itself but now the hard drive has decided that it doesn't like me. About a week and half ago dua0 started unmounting itself during the very early stages of boot process and we ended up having to initialize it and restore VMS from backup. Now it has decided that it wants to be write locked and I can't convince it other wise (Sounds like it's either posessed or really ticked off). Not only that, when I try to reboot it fails while executing SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. I discovered that this was because the PURGE command seems to have been nuked - It crashes when I try to use it. I can bring the system up into multi user mode by hand but it has failed a couple of times when I do this so I don't trust it. I've tried ANALYZE/DISK_STRUCTURE/REPAIR DUA0: but since it wants to be write locked this command doesn't have any effect. If any of you could give me a hand I'd appreciate it.- I'm used to UNIX and I don't know how to tweak VMS the same way. I can be reached at either 'peter@refuge.Colorado.EDU' or 'uunet!zardoz!infotec!peter'. Thanks ahead of time. I'm hoping I won't have to retire the drive (It's old but it's also expensive).
