[comp.os.vms] AutoRaise in DECwindows?

rouben@math9.math.umbc.edu (07/31/90)

We have several DECstation 5000s running DECwindows with Ultirx 4.0.
I generally prefer the working environment of twm over DECwindows,
but for these workstations dxwm is all we've got. So here's a question:

Is it possible to make windows receive focus automatically
as the mouse cursor moves into them?

With the current setup, moving from one dxterm to another requires a
mouse mouse click in the second window to shift the keyboard input focus
to it from the first. I find this behaviour quite annoying.

I have tried setting DXterm*autoRaise:on but it did not seem to have
the effect that I thought it should. I would appreciate any help
that the net can give me in this matter.

Huh? If you like twm, run it.... Should compile and run without
any problems.

If you run our session manager, just add the line
sm.windowManagerName: twm
to your .Xdefaults. Or if you use our session manager,
under UWS 4.0, you could select customize window, and specify it there,
and save your customizations.

This message brought to you from a DECstation 5000, running twm.

To -- I think -- answer the original question, there is no way to tell the
dxwm to autofocus or autoraise. We use the Motif(TM) Window Manager
(mwm) around here for that. Either or both functionality is available.
