I remember reading in one of these groups (being: comp.protocols.tcp-ip, comp.os.vms) that some privileges were necessary for the 'ping' command for WIN/TCP for VMS to be able to be run successfully. The reason for this, was that ping uses raw sockets to achieve its goal. What I forgot (to remember and to save) is: "What exactly are these privileges?" If someone could please enlighten me, I would be very grateful. Sincerely,

You must have CMKRNL and SYSPRV (according to the documentation). If it happens to work with just SYSPRV, you may have found a bug. Future releases may reinstated the restriction. For releases prior to 5.1, it requires BOTH CMKRNL and SYSPRV. 5.1 may just require SYSPRV for your installation, but it is documented as requiring both privs. It is best to follow the documenation.% Warner -- % Don't ask me where in the doc set.
