A few weeks a go I posted a request for an update for various versions of TCP/IP. I got several replies for the CMU TCP/IP problem but none for the LAN-service. Either noone is running that software or people are too embarrassed to admit that they do. Anyway, we are facing the problem that since VMS 5.3 the rsh is no longer working (crashes the system). Now that we want to upgrade to VMS 5.4 we will run into the problem with the new password hashing algorithm that DEC introduced. We have been in touch with Novell who have taken over the Excelan (LAN-service) hardware and software but they can only inform us that the software will be in the public domain 'real soon now'. But there are some legal problems to be solved first they claim. They suggest that a transition to Multinet is a preferred solution but since we are phasing out our VMS systems we don't want to do any new investments in VMS software. And since we have a service contract we feel we have the right to request an updated version. We would like to know if others are or have been in this situation as well. If you have a solution or a good suggestion please contact us, Thanks, Aloys Roes, Philips Components, Building BC-136, | Tel. : + 31 40 72 30 62 P.O.Box 218, 5600 MD Eindhoven, The Netherlands | Email: roes@seri.philips.nl -- regards, Aloys Roes, Philips Components, Building BC-136, | Tel. : + 31 40 72 30 62 P.O.Box 218, 5600 MD Eindhoven, The Netherlands | Email: roes@seri.philips.nl
