I just set up a 10 drop starlan system using a 3b1 server, msdos server and 8 msdos clients. I got the net up and running with little proplem. What I cant seem to do, is get the msdos client to call into the 3b1 as a remote login. I dont have ATT's 4010 terminal emulator or context switch, but the net software came with a program called naucom. There is LITTLE TO NO documentation for this program. From looking at it, it seems to redirect the internal tables pointing to the com ports of an IBM and move the calls to the starlan network. But how do I use this in conjunction with a terminal emulator? And what terminal emulator can I use? I would like to use kermit or procomm. Can anyone help with this? What terminal programs can I use with starlan on an IBM? What software has been written for starlan application? Starlan seems to be a VERY nice net. I have seen the novation system in operation at Kodak, and starlan really does look better. Any help, ideas or software would be greatly appreciated. -- :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: {mhuxu,u1100a}-----\ Mark Hilliard seismo!rochester!kodak!gizzmo!mark N2HHR {ethos,fthood}-----/

Mark, You're out of luck with most terminal emulators and <any> kind of pc lan. The reason is most developers didn't layer their products carefully and <most> Terminal Emulators go right down onto the hardware (async port card) and tickle the registers. All in the name of performance, probably. The ATT 4010 terminal emulator is one of the few specifically designed to work in a multi-network environment, ie COM1 or COM2 plus Starlan. If you do find one that is advertised to operate over 3-Com, or Novell, you may be in luck since Starlan uses the standard MS-DOS interrupt. Definately ask for a test drive before you buy, though.
