[unix-pc.general] LPI C Compiler/Debugger

gmark@ihlpf.ATT.COM (Stewart) (03/18/88)

I've been asking around about the LPI C-compiler. It seems that
the concensus is that quality is lacking. But it's got me wondering.
If it's bad, why is it offered through ATT? (Yes, I know. "stupid!
free enterprise!"... but wait! There's more...) Does the
"Debugger" available for it offer better features? Is the quality/
speed/size of the object better? More features than "stock" cc
and sdb? SOMEBODY has to own these things (C and Debugger)!

Thanks in advance!

We are using the LPI COBOL compiler at work. From what I can tell the debugger
it is the same for all the languages they sell. It is nothing to scream about.
We had all kinds of trouble with response to bug reports from them. They
refused to believe we really had a problem. We only got their attention when
we reminded them we would be influencing the purchase of a few hundred more
compilers. I have not seen the LPI-C, so it could be a wonderful product, I
just don't know.
