These comments are based on that. Sorry, I don't remember the version number of MS Word that I was looking at. It was about 15 months ago, I think.] 1. Apparently, there is no way to add or modify printer description in the UnixPC version. They're all hardwired in. So, if you're lucky, you're lucky. If you're not, you're stuck. 2. I called MS with several questions. They weren't interested in helping me at all. They didn't do the port for the UnixPC and disclaimed all knowledge or responsibility about it. They advised me to see my dealer. 3. I called the UnixPC hotline, and they were fairly helpful and knowledgeable about the MS Word product. Alas, that knowledge added up to confirming my fears. I surmise whoever did the port must have been under a lot of time pressure. If you know about a MS Word feature under MSDOS but can't find it mentioned in the UnixPC version document (or if you find it in the document but it doesn't seem to work), then it probably wasn't ported or doesn't work right. -- Bill Carpenter (AT&T gateways)!ho5cad!wjc

In recent days, I've learned the harsh reality of investing in a discontinued machine. I talked to Word Perfect's UNIX division and asked about availability on the UNIX PC. I was told that it isn't on the porting schedule (the 6386 comes first), but that they get lots of calls from UNIX PC owners. The woman I talked with suggested us writing to: Scott Worthington UNIX Division Word Perfect 228 W. Center St. Orem, UT 84057 and requesting a port to our machine. It's hard for people to go from using Word Perfect to vi/nroff, especially if mental capacity is lacking. I was also interested in purchasing Oracle and doing a networked DBMS. Oracle is nice enough to have done a port, but their refusal to port the networking module cost them the sale. I _have_ found lots of accounting packages available for our orphan, but the cost is staggering (to me, at least). I can get Peachtree for MS-DOS for about $300. Everything I've seen for Unix is $2500+. Anyone know of any low-cost packages? ...Jim Gottlieb <jimmy@PIC.UCLA.EDU> or <jimmy@denwa.UUCP>
