When I received my UNIX-PC(aka 7300) I got all the various warranty cards and filled them with the expectation that I would receive my personal calendar package as promised in the manual. Well here we are several months later and so far NOTHING. What is the matter ATT, are you guilty of false and misleading adds or what. I know that I am NOT the only one with this problem since I have mentioned it to others and they say the same thing. So how about it ATT are you going to come through eventually or are we just going to have to do without a proper copy. Now I know about the hidden one in /etc/<something> and I am using it but it ain't the right stuff(no preferences etc). Jim Sanchez Sytek, Inc. 1225 Charleston Rd Mt. Look at /etc/fixes/pcal. I installed that file on my system, and now I have (what I assume to be) the calendar program that AT&T promised to me for free. Gee, works for me! I pulled my calendar out of "/etc/fixes", too. This was discussed on the net some time ago, so here is what I recall I did: 1. move "pcal" to /usr/bin, and "pcal.hlp" to /usr/lib/ua 2. add this to /usr/lib/ua/Office: Name=Calendar Default = Open Open = EXEC -d /usr/bin/pcal -c Help = EXEC -d /usr/bin/uahelp -h /usr/lib/ua/pcal.hlp -t "Calendar" (now this is it:) 3. add this to /usr/lib/ua/Preferences: Name=Calendar Default = Open Open = EXEC -d /usr/bin/pcal -p Help = EXEC -d /usr/bin/uahelp -h /usr/lib/ua/pcal.hlp -t "Calendar Preferences" ...., ALL (myself included) have returned their warranty >cards and only ONE person (per a phone call) has received the free calender >stuff from AT&T. I didn't even bother to call. Me too. But I called them to complain and they mumbled something about it being back ordered. I got it in about a week complete with the manual. Somebody in another article said something about a class action lawsuit. You *were* kidding weren't you? Your gonna try to go to court over a freebie??? Ha ha ha ha... I didn't even bother to call. Am I the only person to have actually received a calendar from AT&T? I have it. Just call the 'Hotline' and explain your problem (*MANY TIMES*), and eventually you will reach someone who will actually order it for you. I recommend calling twice a week. NO |-)! You'll get it within a couple of months if you follow this approach. We at Howard Publications have about 150 UNIX PCs and we've received 3 I think. I got mine within 6 weeks of constant calling. Until then, use Oscar's suggestion from /etc/fixes and the preferences entry. BTW: The manual for the calendar is, of course, incomplete now that more features (like remote terminals, to-do lists, etc.) are included in PCAL. The pcal and pcal.hlp are pulled out of /etc/fixes immediately after pcal has installed it's (smaller, 3.0 UNIX Version) own. This is one of the reasons that just after installing *any* software from User Agent's Install Software from ... menu the machine takes a million years to stop cycling - it's checking /etc/fixes for any files that it could replace with "newer versions" from fixes. Personal Calendar is the only thing that I have *ever* seen in /etc/fixes. I have considered removing the reference (in /usr/bin/Instcpio.sh?) to searching /etc/fixes against the just-installed files. The other reason the machine takes so long is it's deleting all of the temp files that were created during installation. Well, AT&T: Can I redistribute an installable PCAL+IN via public uucp? >Well, AT&T: Can I redistribute an installable PCAL+IN via public uucp? >Why don't you guys just put it on the STORE!. ATT redistribution policies seem to be on a case by case basis. I've never been denied redistribution rights for any fixdisk which is only "available free of charge to registered owners". Since pcal falls under the same constraints, it's unlikely they'd be upset about redistribution, but a call to the hotline is usually enough to confirm it (surprisingly enough). I'm convinced they've even forgotten that they _have_ anything like The Store! The catalog is still dated 9/01/87, and don't even bother sending any mail the storekeeper. It'll never get a reply, assuming it even gets read... Unfortunate. If they were willing to maintain it, it could be particularly useful. As it is now, it's almost wasted resources (once you've gone through the catalog once or twice, it _is_ wasted resources). :-(

Gee, didn't I suffix the comment (re: "class action lawsuit") with a smiley face? :-) :-)

Right! Many, many thanks! I followed the latest posting of how to "setup" the items from '/etc/fixes/' and the insertions into Preferences did the trick! Actually a very nice program. Now to see if it "alerts" me to my 2PM dental appointment tomorrow. Don't see how it could, though, since I have to *BE* at the dentist at 2PM, and if the bells on the 3B1 ring at 2PM, I'm not going to be there to hear them. Oh well ... can THIS be the reason the 3B1 wasn't the marketing success it deserves to { be | have been } ? :-)
