gcc-1.28 as introduced yet another bootstrapping problem, in its relationship to cc, something to the effect of expr.c: Compiler error at line XXX: Parameter stack overflow. I have no idea what a "Parameter stack overflow" is, but I think that gcc has finally convoluted itself past the reaches of the stock /bin/cc for good. This means that all future versions of gcc will have to be bootstrapped by a gcc executable. The immediate fix is to score gcc-1.2[456] which does not irritate this compiler bug, and then bootstrap off of that. The long term fix is to make a gcc binary available for ftp/uucp access. Unfortunately I am not in a position to do that at the moment, but I'm working on it. Based on the volume of mail that I get concering gcc, this seems a worthwhile endevor, and I would ask that archive sites consider offering this service. gcc binarys run about 600K total. -- :alex.
