[unix-pc.general] 3.5 inch Floppy Drive in UNIX-r PC question

lii@ihlpf.ATT.COM (Ingwersen) (12/01/88)

I would like to replace my 5.25 inch floppy drive with a TEAC FD-135FN
3.5 inch micro-disk floppy drive. Backups are getting to be a pain
with the low capacity floppy drive provided with the UNIX-r PC. I would
like to know if someone has performed such a deed or technically knows
whether the 1.44 high density drive 3.5 inch floppy drive can be simply
replaced. I do know the data rate needed by the high density drive
is MFM 500 K-bits/sec where the current rate in the drive is 250
K-bits/sec. I took a look at the reference manual and the clock provided
to the WD2797 floppy disk controller is 1 MHZ which is coming from
the DMA address chip. If anybody knows please email, call, or post
to this newgroup. Thanks.
