[unix-pc.general] end of file when writing to the floppy

andy@cit-vax.Caltech.Edu (Andy Fyfe) (12/15/88)

It seems that write(2) continues to succeed (advancing the file pointer
as returned by lseek(2)) even when writing well past the end of the disk.
Read(2) returns an end-of-file when it should. Why is this? I'm running
version 3.5 software. This has destroyed the multi-volume feature of
gnu tar (unless I'm missing something).

Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.
