It seems that write(2) continues to succeed (advancing the file pointer as returned by lseek(2)) even when writing well past the end of the disk. Read(2) returns an end-of-file when it should. Why is this? I'm running version 3.5 software. This has destroyed the multi-volume feature of gnu tar (unless I'm missing something).
