This has been hashed over a ga-zillion times before, and I think that
it's about time net.general was banished from the phone lines of the
earth. I was actually hoping that when that rude "joke" was perpetrated
a few months ago (an rmgroup net.general was forged) that it would stay
gone. Alas, all my hopes were in vain. Let's not argue about alternative
names, or software solutions, let's just zap it, and let the jerks find
another place to post their garage sale ads.
It is pointless. Send me your votes (and then we'll remove it anyway :-) ).

There is need for an unmoderated announcement channel (net.announce is moderated) to carry announcements that are too urgent (i.e late) to go through the moderation process. The solution is to name the group so that "jerks" (or the non-savants) who don't read net.announce.newusers don't think it's general discussion group. Create mod.announce, un-moderate net.announce and THEN remove net.general. Charlie Lambert @ the Death Star, IL.
