[unix-pc.general] Patches 15, 16, and 17 for B News 2.11 posted to unix-pc.sources

arnold@skeeve.UUCP (Arnold D. Robbins) (01/27/89)

In keeping with my past history of posting patches to the news source,
I have just finished posting patches 15, 16, and 17 to B News 2.11 to
unix-pc.sources. These are all one "logical" patch, distributed as
three separate physical patches. In other words, you have to apply
all of them or none of them.

It is interesting to see the timing of the patches. Both C News and
B News 3.0 are scheduled for imminent release. Both new sets of
netnews programs claim significant improvement over 2.11. It will be
interesting to see which one becomes the standard.

As I understand it, and take this with a grain of salt, C News merely
replaces the parts that move news and administer it; i.e. rnews and
expire, while News 3.0 does that as well as supplying news reading programs.
And maybe one of these days, Larry Wall will get rn 5.0 out.

Oh well, it seems like life as a news admin is about to get more interesting.
Enjoy, folks! (Actually, I'm looking forward to it; on a 3B1 you can really
tell when rnews cranks up...)

[ No, I haven't gotten my anonymous UUCP archive reorganized yet. Soon. ]
