Re: Kannan's troubles ... Verify that all the large chips on the motherboard are firmly seated in their sockets. Same for the PAL chips (some are "hidden" towards the back of the motherboard). Also check the power supply voltages and that they ARE, in fact, getting to the HD (the +12 just powers the motor). I posted an article recently how to check and adjust the voltages. And be sure ALL the cables are securely nestled in their connectors: the 20 and 34 wire ones from the HD, and the power supply cable. And, the battery is a Lithium cell about the size of a quarter. It is located near the LEDs at the left of the motherboard. Stock, it's soldered. I replace them with sockets and have had no problem. Be SURE to remove the jumper near the battery before applying a soldering iron to it (or the socket to-be attached) (and don't forget to re-insert the jumper when thru! :-) It's a standard lithium battery, costs around $1.
