[unix-pc.general] suggestions for word processing software

rhaar@rcsuna.UUCP (Bob Haar CS50) (05/15/89)

I am looking for a word-processing style editor to use on
UNIX PC (AT&T 7300) running version 3.51 Sys V. This is for my
wife, who is uncomfortable with computers in general and cannot
function easily with the vi/emacs editors and nroff formatters.

basic requirements:
	- be a WYSIWYG full-screen editor.
	- automatic on-screen reformatting as text is
	  inserted and deleted.
	- support for user-defined character sets (unless there
is a standard Old English font around)
	- generates output for Epson compatible printers

desirables:
	- on-screen display of alternate character sets.
	- mouse directed text select/remove/copy/insert.
	- customizable handling of footnotes and bibliography
	  references.

I would appreciate suggestions and comments from anyone with
experience with such a beast, either commercial or PD.

Please mail to me directly. I will forward the responses to
anyone who is interested.

thanks,

Bob Haar
