I would like to create a new newsgroup in unix-pc, "unix-pc.x". The purpose of this newsgroup is to discuss porting the MIT X window software to the UNIXpc. I propose that this group NOT be moderated. Since unix-pc is an "alternate" newsgroup, I don't know how official I have to get about talking about additions. Let's just follow along with normal newsgroup addition policy for now, just to keep everyone happy. Sorry for the bandwidth in news.groups Let the debate begin. Please keep the discussion focused on the idea of creating the newsgroup, not the validity of doing the port. Remeber to post your comments to news.groups, where this sort of thing is supposed to be. I will post a call for votes in two weeks to news.groups, unix-pc.general and comp.sys.att. After a while, when the creation of unix-pc.x IS warrented, I will (if necessary) re-post the creation request. Until then: *** THE CREATION REQUEST IS RETRACTED *** Thanks for the attention folks. Let's just get rolling on it. Would everyone who is interested in working on the project, and has disk resources to work on it please post to unix-pc.general Thanks, John -- John Bly Milton IV, jbm@uncle.UUCP, n8emr!uncle!jbm@osu-cis.cis.ohio-state.edu (614) h:294-4823, w:764-2933; N8KSN, AMPR: 44.70.0.52; Don't FLAME, inform!

Re: "unix-pc.x", you're kidding, right? This *IS* June and not April 1?! The *H*U*M*O*N*G*O*U*S* and overwhelming volume of some 30-40 postings a week to unix-pc.general warrants another splinter? S-u-u-u-r-e .... :-) In *MY* opinion, the present unix-pc.general, unix-pc.bugs and unix-pc.uucp should be consolidated into the original unix-pc.general (based on the underwhelming volume of postings) just to maintain cohesiveness. Seriously. The present unix-pc.general contains material relating to my discovery of AT&T's file death-bomb (re: /usr/lib/uucp/uudemon.day) to SCSI to HDs to everything else of interest to the UNIXPC community. Why make it more difficult to communicate with kindred souls? You asked for opinions: mine is AGAINST forming unix-pc.x Thad Floryan [ thad@cup.portal.com (OR) ..!sun!portal!cup.portal.com!thad ]
