Today I tried to install a new Segate ST-4096 (1024 cyl, 9 head) in my UNIX-PC to replace my flaky Miniscribe 6085 (1024 cyl, 8 head). Since I do not have the p5.1 upgrade, I was formating it as an 8 head drive. When trying to initialize the drive, I immediately get the error message (I didn't write it down, so this is an approximation): Error: Failed on format: Response = 4. Other actions to the disk (diagnostics, for example) also produced a failure indicating response = 4. I feel certain that I had the drive configured as drive 1 (and I tried other drive configurations also - same result). Any ideas? Since the drive is new, I am considering returning it as defective, but if there is something I am doing wrong, please let me know. Many thanks.
