[net.dcom] Need info on small port contention boxes

I need information on small port contention boxes suitable for
RS232 asynchronous traffic. We would like to start with 16 ports, but
the ability to expand (to perhaps 48) would be a plus. The environment
would be a mix of async. terminals, host ports, modems, and serial
printers. In particular, I would like to be able to use the same
modem for both dial-in and dial-out traffic. Data transparency after
connection is also important. As an example, the Gandalf rep. is
suggesting their SWITCHMUX which has up to 16 ports per box and upto
4 boxes connected by synchronous links. I am not very familiar with
this area and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. Keeping the price low is probably the #1 priority. I found
a box in the Inmac catalog for $2k/16 ports and am going
to have to fight for each additional dollar to get what we
	really need.
