[net.dcom] U.S.R. Modems

andys@aquin.UUCP (Andy Sibre) (08/10/86)

I have and use a U.S.R. Courier 2400 Modem. It is dial-in/dial-out.
I get the full news stuff nitely from a site running Hayes 2400 modems.
Depending on job queing, I call them or they call me. *NO* PROBLEMS !!!

At 2400 baud, user in California was logged in 20 min. during normal
business hours, had only ONE glitch whole session. I have spent over
1 hr. on line to cheap modem (Tandy DC-1200) in Connecticut, *NO*
errors/glitches at 1200 baud.

U.S.R. has 1 big problem: HEAT !!! box is plastic, not metal like Hayes.
Result, no heat sink capability. If air entering U.S.R. is either obstructed
or hot, modem will die. Solution: Do *NOT* stack them !!!

Contrary to some comments, U.S.R. **IS** vis22.bis compatible.
Cheers!
