gcc 1.36 compiled paranoia fine on the Unix-PC -- as long as you didn't try
to invoke the optimizer.  When you did try -O, you got this message complaining
about running out of virtual memory (2.5 Meg - wow!).

Both cc and gcc versions yielded identical results when run.
