I've a 7300 at home running 3.51 and a bevy of Suns at work running SunOS 4.0.3 (old style uucp) using the internal 1200 bps modem on the 7300 and a choice of a USR 2400 or Telebit on the work machines. When initially configured, uucp seemed to be fairly reliable, but now days seem to go by with the errors (attached at the end of this note) before a poll seems to hit 'just right' and the traffic flows. I can cu/tip from the Sun->7300 with no difficulty. I can cu from the 7300->Sun with no difficulty but it hangs immediately upon login (after I select the terminal type). Some of the login message gets printed to the screen as if they are control characters. From the 7300, I've tried cu -o and cu -e but it has no affect. It seems to me that some serial line paramter that I've got set up on the sun box has to be the culprit, but what? UUCP with my internet MX host and other UUCP sites works just fine. Is it the internal modem on the 7300? Is it 'known' to be flaky? Errors follow. Any suggestions appreciated. --log of poll of tulsix->drd that hung uucp drd (1/29-7:26:28,7920,0) SUCCEEDED (call to drd ) uucp drd (1/29-7:26:33,7920,0) OK (startup) uucp drd drdN602e (1/29-7:26:33,7920,0) REQUEST (tulsix!D.tulsi225b0c8 --> drd!D.tulsi225b0c8 (uucp)) uucp drd drdN602e (1/29-7:29:01,7920,1) BAD READ (expected 'S' got FAIL) uucp drd drdN602e (1/29-7:29:01,7920,1) FAILED (conversation complete) --log of poll of tulsix->drd two days later that seemed to hit just right uucp drd (1/31-10:28:12,9556,0) SUCCEEDED (call to drd ) uucp drd (1/31-10:28:19,9556,0) OK (startup) uucp drd drdN602e (1/31-10:28:19,9556,0) REQUEST (tulsix!D.tulsi225b0c8 --> drd!D.tulsi225b0c8 (uucp)) uucp drd drdN602e (1/31-10:28:25,9556,1) REQUEST (tulsix!D.drd602e0c8 --> drd!X.drdN602e (uucp)) ... uucp drd (1/31-10:35:20,9556,40) OK (conversation complete ph1 556) -- log of uucico with -x5 poll from drd->tulsix finds called getto called call: no. 7488558 for sys tulsix Dial 7488558 Using dialer type ACUHAYES dialing Hayes 0\015ACU write ok 5\015dcr returned as 6 login called wanted in: got ? send wanted in: \015\012\015\015\012\015\012Welcome to the AT&T UNIX pc\015\012\015\0 12Please login:got that send luvnhugs msg-ROK Rmtname tulsix, Role MASTER, Ifn - 6, Loginuser - mark rmesg - 'P' got Pg wmesg 'U'g Proto started g protocol g *** TOP *** - role=1, wrktype - S wmesg 'S' D.tulsixB12e2 D.tulsixB1 rmesg - 'S' alarm 1 alarm 2 ... alarm 10 and it exits. -- mark@DRD.Com {uunet, rutgers}!drd!mark (918)743-3013
