From: Bob Sutterfield <bob> Environment: diskless Sun 2/120, Sun UNIX 3.0 Xv10r4 distribution from zap.mit.edu + updates of Dec 24 environment variable DISPLAY=ford:0 (local host) In X/Makefile, NETOPTIONS= -DTCPCONN -DDUALTCP -DUNIXCONN Upon invoking xinit from csh as root, the cursor comes alive (Sun-style arrow, not X-style X) until I am given the message `fatal error: ? at No Listeners', then a complaint from xterm not being able to find the display server unix:0. If I invoke xinit from csh as a non-root mortal, I am told `fatal error: Permission denied at No Listeners', and then xterm complains. If I invoke `Xsun /dev/fb 0' I get the same fatal error in each case, but I don't hear from xterm. This is obviously a simple configuration problem, but as we're just starting out with X, it has me pretty well befuddled. Any suggestions? Thanks very much for the help. ------ Bob Sutterfield, Department of Computer and Information Science The Ohio State University; 2036 Neil Ave. Columbus OH USA 43210-1277 bob@ohio-state.{arpa,csnet} or ...!cb{osgd,att}!osu-eddie!bob (614) 292 - 0915 or (614) 292 - 5813
