[comp.windows.x] X.V10R4 xterm bugs

bh@cs.brown.edu.UUCP (02/09/87)

Are there "officially" recognized bugs (as opposed to "features")
in the X.V10R4 "xterm" and are there "official" fixes to them?
In general I'm interested in any bug fixes to anything in X 10.4 before
I sit down and try to debug things (like: why does xterm sometimes die
during a resize?).

The most recent "official" set of bug fixes to xterm from M.I.T. are
contained in the 12/24 V10R4 distribution (aka "R4 update" for you
early ftp'ers). This is the distribution being sent by the M.I.T.
Software and Publications group.

The only time we've seen xterm die on a resize is when we've caused an
inconsistency between the kernel and the xterm binary on SIGWINCH.
I've never seen xterm die on a consistent kernel (4.2 or 4.3).

I'll be putting xterm 6.6B on prang.Berkeley.EDU this week. It has several
bug fixes (like dying when resizing the alternate screen and yanking text
that fills the line) as well as making all the options consistent again
(before -sb meant turn on the scrollbar while -tb meant turn off the
titlebar, now it means always to turn on so titlebars are no the default
as in previous versions).

This should be the last in the 6.6 series. When I find the time, I work
on version 7 of xterm, which should have some niceties, like a command
that you can run within an xterm window to reconfigure that window (e.g.,
change the font, color, size, etc).

P.S. Prang is sick and goes up and down like a yo-yo. Sorry for any
inconvenience this may cause, but the person in charge is doing the best
he can, considering he has a million more pressing things to do.
