I'm interested in hearing from people who are working on "desktop managers" using the X Window System. By "desktop manager" I mean a client which gives an iconic representation (a la the Macintosh interface) onto the UNIX file system and knows how to perform operations on different types of objects (i.e. clicking on an executable causes execution whereas on a ".c" file causes a text editor to be invoked). One system that provides this is Counterpoint - which I looked at briefly at UNIFORUM.
