[comp.windows.x] X screendump program that generates postscript output

sundar@SPECIAL-K.AI.MIT.EDU (Sundar Narasimhan) (03/10/87)

In case anyone wants it, I have a hardcopy program (thanks to Chris
Lindblad - the resident wizard, who helped debugging it) that can
generate a postscript dump of a given X window. It scales the window
optionally to fit on the entire page. Normally it spools the output
file via lpr, but can be told to direct its output to a file if need be.

You can link this routine in with programs to give them a screendump
capability. (one candidate for such a capability would be 'uwm' and a
'f.screendump' function).

Right now, I've tested it on Suns running 3.2, and it seems to work
quite well.

I think this program would be of interest to many people; why don't you put
it in some publically ftp'able place (e.g. zap).

I'd really like a copy of that. Can I get it anonymous ftp/cftp? (I am
on charon, so I can use chaos) Thanks a lot...

I modified xpr quite a while ago to add a flag for the postscript device.
I created my version by hacking the V10R3 version, but it seems to work
ok with V10R4. I think I mentioned the fact on this list, but many people
seem not to have seen the announcement. Judging by some of the discussion
on this list, my version seems to run faster than some of the others. It is
available via anonymous ftp from gjetost.wisc.edu. It's in the subdirectory
(of the anonymous ftp login directory) called 'xpr'. There are 4 files
there, xpr.c, xpr, xpr.1 (modified man page), and README.

If you grab a copy, please let me know how it works out for you.
