Background: Sun 3's running SunOS 3.0, using X.V10R4 with assorted bug fixes to the server from prang.berkeley.edu Problem: Every once in a while, you'll log in to the Sun, start up X (using Ed Moy's modified xinit, which reads ~/.xinit and starts tools for you in a separate process group), work for a while, and exit from X. When you exit, you find that your login shell has been killed and you're talking to a getty on your console, which is asking you to log in. It's almost as though when Ed's xinit tries to kill the processes it started, it ends up propogating the kill to the login shell, except that I can't find anyplace this seems to be happening. Has anyone else seen this happen? Anyone know what to do to stop it? -- Matt Landau mlandau@diamond.bbn.com 10 Moulton Street, Cambridge MA 02238 ...harvard!diamond.bbn.com!mlandau "Waiting for a flash of enlightenment in all this blood and thunder..."
