I really get tired of all the news posted by people about what groups are supposed to be for and why things were started etc. Note the recent crap in net.startrek. I would strongly suggest that when a new group is started that the originator post a message about the group to the group and give it an expiry date in the next millenia! This way, late netnews starters will get this message and know what is going on. To do this, whenever a new site joins netnews, they should arrange to have their contact forward the first articles from each group to them. Certain groups like net.general need such messages. net.general is for messages of general interest, ie. of interest to EVERYBODY. It is not for messages that you can't think of another group for. That's net.misc.
