[comp.windows.x] Installing X.V10R4 on an Apollo

yanagida@ole.UUCP (04/07/87)

       Hi,

I am trying to install the X.V10R4 distribution tape from MIT on
my Apollo DN3000 node running SR9.2.5. I have compiled all the
code and even tested the Apollo server (Xapollo) and it seems to
work correctly. I get the background with the X cursor.

The problem I have, is the "README" file in the libapollo
       directory says (quote):

> In addition, xterm must be loaded with a version of termcap that does not
> invoke the vtserver when tgetent() is called for an ansi terminal. The
> standard Domain/IX termcap does display this behavior, and it causes xterm to
> hang, as the vtserver is unable to acquire the display.

It seems that xterm does indeed hang when I try to run it, but
there is no termcap.c file included in the distribution and no
mention of how to get one. Does anyone have a copy that you
       could send to me?

I would also be very interested in comparing notes with anyone
else installing X on Apollo (what changes did you have to make,
etc.). If you are interested please e-mail or call.

An improved version of X.V10R4 for the Apollo is available from the
Apollo Domain User's Society (ADUS). This includes many fixes made
after the X10.4 tape. Send mail to:

        adus@apollo.UUCP
        {mit-erl,mit-eddie,yale,uw-beaver,decvax!wanginst}!apollo!adus
              OR
        apollo!adus@eddie.mit.edu

Sorry to post this information again, but there seem to be many people
struggling with the X10.4 tape

So much for the usefulness of unofficial anythings. Andrea Woloski of
ADUS informs me that this tape is not ready yet (being copied perhaps?)
and that ADUS members will get a notice as soon as it is available.
If you are not an ADUS member, you can join by calling ADUS at
627-256-6600 ext. 4448

with ADUS. Anything I say is as an informed individual, and
not as an employee of Apollo Computer.
