[comp.windows.x] System V Implementations

daj@necis.UUCP (David Jesseman) (04/24/87)

David,

In response to your article which starts:
[We are working on porting xterm to run under Bell System V.3 Unix. ...]

Have you overcome other System V/X windows hurdles such as:
o UCB socket support for IPC
	o Implementation of select(2)
	  - Did you utilize V.3 streams and poll?
o Lack of symbolic links (a minor pain)
	o Non-support of filenames > 14 chars (another pain)

I'd be interested in hearing from you and anyone else who has, or is in
the process of, a port to V.2 or V.3.

We intend to port X applications to our 68020 based machine (running V.2).
Our initial server will be our IBM-AT compatible (running MS-DOS or Xenix).
Current plans are to use TCP/IP via Interlan as our protocol.

I am willing to summarize and post responses if there is interest.
