[comp.windows.x] The Diamond System

martillo@athena.mit.edu (Yakim Martillo) (05/30/87)

I have heard that NSF is funding the development of a window-based,
distributed document handling and text processing system which
contains a WYSIWIG editor and has graphics handling and outputting
capabilities. Supposedly the system is called the diamond system and
a lot of the work is being done at BBN. I would be most grateful if
someone could write and tell me who to contact to find out more about
thhe cu>d lpt

Right. The program is called EXPRES and its Program Director is Dr. Alvin
Thaler; you can get a more complete description from <athaler@note.nsf.gov>.

Not quite. BBN is under contract to the University of Michigan, one of the
two EXPRES awardees. BBN has been developing the Diamond Multi-Media Mail
System for some time under other sponsorship and it is being used in EXPRES
as a start-up component.

But Diamond is NOT EXPRES, and EXPRES is NOT Diamond.
