.
The following press release is of interest to this group:

At the request of several member companies the
Technical Committee on Computer Graphics Standards, X3H3,
has agreed to have its Window Management Task Group, X3H3.6,
investigate the X Window System V11 for serving as a basis
	for a future standard.

This involves a fair amount of activity centering around:

	   1. the development of a reference model for X,

	   2. determining the relationships between X and
the current and evolving standards, such as
		GKS, CGI and PHIGS,

	   3. the production of documents clarifying X in
the areas of its protocol, its library (XLib),
		and its drawing functionality.

This activity is supported by a large number of the
vendors that have adopted X as a window system and
will take place during the next 6 months. At the
next X3H3 meeting in Lowell, Massachussetts, this
October, the Window Management Task Group will
evaluate the results and make recommendations to X3H3.
