In his net.general article on the burger debate, Mark complains about old versions of the software not generating Re: lines nor putting followups in net.followup. At watmath, at least, 2.9 has been running since a few days after it was first released. There is nothing to prevent someone from using postnews to direcly post something to net.general, and I suspect that this is what happened. He may not even know about the 'reply' command. I don't see any simple solution to this.
