I assume what they mean is they want something like multiple xterms on their ascii terminal. Recently Oliver Laumann (net@tub.BITNET) posted a program called screen which basically allowed any decent terminal to have multiple vt100 "screens", and a method to switch between them; to comp.sources.unix. I took these sources, generalized the interface which bound keys to functions (similar to the way you bind mouse keys to window manipulation functions) so that they would work with most terminal function keys (for example you are no longer limited in key sequence length (well 50 is a limit I guess), and they can start with more than one character, it is no longer necessary to escape the starting characters of a sequence (there is a timeout)) Added an insert function (if you bind ^A^t to insert "!! | less" pressing ^A^t will really type !! | less). Also I added a cut and paste mode (instead of moving a mouse you position with "vi-like" commands). This enhanced version has been sent to the comp.unix.sources watchdog, in the mean time (measured at least in days), it is available via anonymous ftp from e.ms.uky.edu. I will not respond to individual mail requests for the sources until I know whether or not the moderator of comp.sources.unix likes it or not. (SIGH, where did net.sources go? why did it go? I don't want to post it to alt.sources as it does not have enough readership yet, and it would be a waste to have it delivered twice.... where does one ask about sources now? (Before you respond DO YOU read comp.sources.wanted... I mean with your eyes open, not <SPACE> <SPACE> <SPACE>)) Brian --------- Brian Sturgill System Manager University of Kentucky Departments of Mathematical Sciences brian@ms.uky.edu brian@ms.uky.csnet {uunet, cbosgd}!ukma!brian brian@UKMA.BITNET
