[comp.windows.x] Two client variations and a minor hack

raveling@VAXA.ISI.EDU (Paul Raveling) (09/01/87)

In the process of tidying up our local nonstandard X10.4 clients,
as used on HP Bobcats, I've extracted three which may be of
some value to other X users. They're available for FTP
by anonymous login from VAXA.ISI.EDU from subdirectories
	of pub/X.

	These three clients are...

isiuwm	Variant of uwm, almost compatible with standard uwm
xload	Variant of xload, compatible with standard xload
xsetmap	Small program to set and hold color map entries

isiuwm differs from uwm in its use of mouse keys. It uses only
"click" operations, rather than the hold-drag-release operations
which I found relatively cumbersome and error-prone.

xload allows a couple variations on the text it displays.
	One is a slogan from .Xdefaults (instead of host name);
Another is a "New Mail @ <time>" note which pops up in place
of the host name or slogan.

xsetmap allocates (sharable) color map entries for colors
listed in .Xdefaults. We've used this with 4-plane displays
to enforce an "ideal" color map. At least it avoided various
embarassments in demoing map images that can look like rubbish
	without some particular color.

For more info, there's a README file for each of these.
