Has anyone written a facility that allows a remote user to send a message to my X server which will pop up a window with the message, allow me to type a reply into the window, and then dissappear. My model for this is the converse facilities on the Symbolics Lispms. Preferably, such a facility would be setup to intercept SMTP send messages and other intermachine immediate message protocols.

I wrote a simple program for pop-up messages and single-line replies last fall, primarily as a test of various toolkits, but it never escaped from here. A much more complete facility, incorporating user locator services, broadcast services (with 'subscriptions') and authentication is under development here. You will hear about it when it is ready for release. -Ralph R. Swick MIT Project Athena/DEC
