[comp.windows.x] BE2 on X Tape

jhm+@ANDREW.CMU.EDU (Jim Morris) (09/22/87)

We are happy to announce that IBM will put the Andrew Toolkit on M.I.T.'s X
distribution tape. Although it was not on the tape released on September 15,
we hope it will go out in December.

The Andrew Toolkit (sometimes called Base Environment 2) is an extensible,
object-oriented system for the display, and manipulation of graphical objects
in a workstation environment. Its basic application is a multi-media document
editor that provides multi-font text, drawings, raster images, equations,
tables, and spreadsheets. It runs on X.11. This toolkit is the product of
about twenty programmer-years of development at the Information Technology
Center, a joint project of Carnegie Mellon and IBM.

The X distribution tape is available from M.I.T.'s Microcomputer Center (Room
11-209, MIT, Cambridge MA 02139) to anyone for a nominal charge. The programs
on it come with source and can be enhanced and redistribitued without
restriction.
