I'm really surprised that ...!abc!ijk!xyz can have the capability of controlling the newsgroup distribution, creation, removal, et al at some other site. If I were an administrator I'd put the kibosh on that immediately. (But then, what do I know... I'm "just a user", not an administrator) Regarding the apparent refusal of some sites to forward of news groups: is the complaint with the volume of news to be forwarded, or is it that some locations would prefer that their users not "waste the time" of perusing through these newsgroups. That is, do these nodes refuse to forward the news, or do they refuse to receive it in the first place? If the wasting-time is the issue, couldn't these sites merely keep the offending news in a user-non-readable file, and forward it anyway, thus allowing downstream sites to make their own decisions? And if the pronlem is the volume of the news, it seems to me that these sites are trying to "have their cake and eat it too"; if they want to participate in netnews, and reap the benefits, they should be willing to endure the price. not afraid to talk to folks out of my league keith ericson teklabs
