[comp.windows.x] Xtk status

RWS@ZERMATT.LCS.MIT.EDU (Robert Scheifler) (10/31/87)

The following message is from the folks at DEC working on the toolkit.
In addition, we will soon be identifying a general contact point for
toolkit issues.

DEC is committed to the development of the Xtoolkit as an industry
standard. DEC intends to play a significant role in the design,
implementation, and support of the Xtoolkit, now and for the
foreseeable future. To that end, we are:

  1) Providing to MIT an updated copy of the Xtoolkit intrinsics,
reflecting bug fixes and changes to the interface to address problems
and deficiencies in the beta Xtoolkit definition
  2) Providing complete documentation for the Xtoolkit intrinsics
  3) Participating fully and actively in the public discussions of the Xtoolkit
  4) Providing on-going support for the Xtoolkit in the form of people
to fix bugs, attend extension activities related to the Xtoolkit,
engage in dialog with other parties interested in the evolution of the Xtoolkit
  5) Continuing to promote the Xtoolkit as an industry standard

We are sending MIT a copy of the current state of the intrinsics, both
spec and implementation. The changes between the Sept 15 spec
and this spec will be described in the xpert/xtension forums as soon as possible.

You didn't mention the toolkit widget set that was part of the
earlier releases, but was missing on the Sept. 15
release e.g., Scroll, ScrollWin, Form, HPane, etc. Is this MIT's
responsibility now? Will these be on this updated copy of the toolkit?
If not, will someone be doing them and can you guess about an
availability date. Thanks.
