RWS@ZERMATT.LCS.MIT.EDU (Robert Scheifler) (11/18/87)
A newer (but not completely up to date) version of the Xtk Intrinsics manual is now available via anonymous ftp to zap.mit.edu, both in line printer (intrinsics.rno) and in PostScript (intrinsics.psc). It also can be obtained by using the xstuff server. Send a message to xstuff@apx.lcs.mit.edu with no body and a subject line of the form send tk rno1 for the line printer or send tk psc1 for the PostScript. The line printer output is split into 4 sections, rno1 through rno4, and the PostScript output is split into 8 sections, psc1 through psc8. Send a separate message for each section. I want to emphasize that this manual is rough in both format and wording; it is not a finished product yet. We are sending it out now to get public feedback on content. Comments and suggestions are solicited; please mail them to xpert@athena.mit.edu (since we assume there is wide interest), or to xbugs@athena.mit.edu if you want privacy for some reason. Any proposals for significant changes should reach us by December 7 to stand a chance; proposals for very minor changes can be made later than that, but we want to freeze the interface by December 23. We know this isn't much time; people involved will make every effort to respond in a timely fashion. If you suggest substantial changes, it is important to back them up with details and justifications, and a commitment to provide resources. Depending on the changes, we might either need resources to make the changes directly, or resources to get related Xtk tasks done while others work on the changes. [This is not to imply that just the existence of resources guarantees acceptance of change.] [As a date above implies, the next release will not occur in December. It is conceivable it will happen in January, but that would be optimistic. February is probably more realistic.]
