[comp.windows.x] X11 R 1 on a sun. Some hints...

Hi --

Some advice on installing X11 Release 1 (at least on Suns):

After taring the tape in, apply all patches. Be very careful with patch
number 60 -- it has several parts and 'patch' does not handle
them all correctly. When finished with all the patches, go to the
gnuplot directory and edit Imakefile, replacing '-lnm' with '-lm'.

Also, if you are installing X into a nonstandard root (ie: DESTDIR is
assigned a non-null string), you will probably want to modify the
Imakefile/Makefile to change the definition of the FONTDIRECTORY, as
it currently will cause the 'DESTDIR' to be used twice. You'll also
want to make the following directories by hand before doing he make
install:

	$DESDIR/usr/bin
	$DESDIR/usr/include/
	$DESDIR/usr/man

Also, see the _very useful_ article by David R. Stampf in previous
issues of this news group.

Does anyone that _knows_ know when Release 2 will come out? Rumours
have implied that it is going to be later than the original Dec. 15.
I'm not pushing, just curious.

Good Luck,...
